Geocaching on the Isle of Arran

Geocaching

Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use GPS (Global Positioning System) to hide and seek out containers. This game is fun for all ages, a great family activity and best of all - it's free! Why not get the kids involved in this outdoor treasure hunt?

All you need to get you started is a GPS enabled device such as a smartphone, a pencil or pen to sign the log book and any trinket or treasure you wish to swap; the rule being if you take the treasure from the geocache (container) then you’re supposed to leave something for the next person.

The game requires you to navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache hidden at that location.

There are lots of cache points dotted around the island and we would suggest that you try an easy one to start off with. There are different caches for novices and harder ones for the more experienced!

A good one to try would be the Arran Coastal Way – Sannox Bay
